As the titel says, I booked a codeshare flight, through expedia, booked with continental, operated by virgin - does anyone have experience of doing this and trying to preselect meals or seats, I don't seem to be able to do either on either of the airline's websites.

Normally everything would be dealt with via the operating airline - so Virgin in this case.

Give them a ring, they'll be able to find your details.

Thought I'd need to ring one of them, was just hoping it wasn't Continental as I could only find US telephone numbers and didn't want a long overseas phone call for them to tell me to call Virgin!

Yep just call Virgin. They'll buy the space on the plane from the other airline, but it's up to them to deal with any queries/problems as you've paid them for it smile

It's not always as simple as calling the operating airline. The codesharer might have an allocation of seats but the actual carrier might not get the names for those from the other airline until 48 hrs or so before, you could speak to Virgin and find that they have no idea who you are. Equally CO won't have access to the VS seat map so they won't necessarily do you a specific seat either. These days it is increasingly common to find the first chance you have to choose seating is at online checkin, that's even if booking directly with the airline who will operate that flight let alone adding codesharing into the situation. Ultimately your contract is with the booking agent and certainly for special meal requests these should be requested in the booking by them, so I'd speak to Expedia.
