rough spending money
Discussion
i am going to bordum in turkey for 2 weeks is september and i am trying to work out roughly how much money i need for spending.
i am going with my girl friend and i think we will go self catering and we will dinning out but not to extravigant and like sight seeing and just going to the beach. we want to go diving one or two times while we are out there and hit the night life a little bit.
any rough guides?

You can eat dinner out (2 courses) for no more than £15 a head even if you are pushing the boat out. £10 a night is perfectly attainable if you don't go too wild. At one place I had a massive steak with all the trimmings for £9 and a seabass with trimmings is about the same.
If money is an issue just order a big bottle of water with dinner and stay away from wine/beer/pop which is where they make their money. We drink water anyway with meals, but it's a good idea as a few beers and a few cokes over dinner can easily bump the final bill up by £15 over water, which adds up over 2 weeks...
Lunchwise, you can get a sandwich/burger and crisps/chips etc for under £5 each, or self cater for even less.
A large beer will vary between 3 and 5 YTL, so no more than £2 a pint worst case, but most places are 3-4YTL this year. Soft drinks tend to be about the same. Foreign spirits and mixers will start pushing a drink up to between £3 and £4. A big bottle of water is about £1.50 in a bar/restaurant.
Make use of the cheap dolmus (buses) at the Bordum bus station to get about and see other places. If you are after lively pop down to Gumbet for an evening out. If you want a nice beach pop down to Bitez one day. Very very nice. Also pop over to Turgetreis on a Saturday morning for the massive market and a mooch around.
Usual rules apply. Drinks and food are always expensive in the main areas/strips, and usually meals are disappointing. For nice restaurants in Bodrum head towards the marina and follow it down. We've had some brilliant meals down there in lovely restaurants overlooking the marina and they don't cost anymore than the pushy signage clad places on the main strips. A must try is a Cokertme Kebab.
Other than that, enjoy. We were out there a few weeks ago and it was hot. My outlaws are over there at the moment and it is scorching apparently.

thanks guys :-)
i have been to bodrum before but over 6 years ago and things change. prices don't seam much different though. its more the fact that i have been away twice this year in europe and places in the euro and paying £4 for a can of coke is a joke!
lets say i was armed with £500 each and had £500 back up and i am just doing the normal non flashy stuff. nice meal each night but not stupid stuff like lobster and a few drinks and some clubbing and a coulpe of dives while im out there.
the mini bus service is the only way to get around imho everytime i have been there and i think it was about 50p to go anywhere 6 years ago. i will be going to places like camel beach and gumbet to :-)
