I'm travelling to the USA in a couple of months. It's my first time abroad so i hardly know anything about it. The one thing that i'm struggling with a bit is the visa type application. Can anyone point me in the right direction to what i need to do to apply for this. I've heard you cannot gain entry without.

If you have a UK passport and no skeletons in your closet you'll gain entry under the Visa Waiver Program - all you need to do in advance is do an ESTA application online:
http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/esta/

takes 10 mins. You'll also get a similar visa waiver form and customs form to complete on the plane - so take a pen with you. They are due to phase out the paper-based visa waiver soon (its a duplicate of the ESTA), but haven't done so yet.
