family adventure trip help needed

Greetings all

I need some help and pointers. We ( my family )have decided to embark on a round the world sailing trip. The plan is to try and get a large catamaran for stability and space and to set out from NA in the summer of 2010. Having never done anything like this before a couple of questions
Can I get a travel company to part sponsor something like this ( was thinking along the lines of Lonely Planet ) ?
I plan to write a book about the trip so any friendly publishers willing to take a punt with a small advance please get in touch?
Any route ideas starting from Florida greatly appreciated.
