Hi,

can anyone recommend a good pub / restaurant near Cockermouth / Lake District. I would like good tasty food without it costing an arm and a leg..

I can highly recommend the Brook Inn in Cleator - about 20 mins from Cockermouth. Excellent and reasonably priced food, but pretty busy so you'd need to book on a Fri/Sat (and maybe Thurs, 'cos I think there's a quiz).

Dear rykard,

can't recommend eats but DO try a pint of Jennings rich dark Sneck Lifter while you're there, yummy,

There's a hotel/restaurant on the Cockermouth-Carlisle road 1-2miles past (towards Carlisle) the Torpenhow turning that does good food. Can't remember the name of it though...

There's a pub with an on-site brewery in Cockermouth which is pretty good for beer & food - The Bitter End http://www.bitterend.co.uk/. The chinese in the pedestian-ish area is pretty good too, and if you like microwaved food in restaurants then the Honest Lawyer is the place for you.

There is a pub in Cockermouth called (iirc) The Huntsman, where people often que out of the door in order to get a table and have a good sized tasty £3.99 roast meal.

Although I haven't been for 4 years I suggest checking if that is still the case smile
