Just booked a holiday to the Maldives, as Mrs IJ's little un is off on holiday with his dad, and it has just dawned on me that some of the smaller islands may not have mobile coverage.

We are staying on komandoo island, any ideas or experience of mobiles in this area peeps?

It's not too much of a problem - the islands are so flat that coverage is easier there.

Thats a relief. Just so people can get hold us in case of problems with the little fella.

Could there be anything more annoying than spunking a few large on a trip to the Maldives and finding oneself on the beach relaxing with a Margarita alongside someone with a frikkin mobile?

Get a grip, you are on holiday, no one needs to be that contactable.

Let the kids dad get on with it. In fact get rid of the mobile before you go.

I meant leave it in the room and pic messages up. And if she wanted to ring the little fella (women tend to pine for kids), she could do.

We were (are) with Orange, and our phones switched automatically to Dhiragoo Mobile (!). We phoned our parents to let them know we got there safely, then switched off.

Literally.

I spent a week on a live aboard diving boat way down the south Atolls and always had a signal to call home. The coverage is excellent and the locals use their phones as much as we do at here.
