Recomend me a holiday.
Discussion
Me and SWMBO have run into a wall trying to plan our hols this year. We have a tiny problem of her being limited to school holidays and me being limited to a 10 day window in August. We would prefer not to visit some chav filled package destination, have looked into Thailand but don't fancy it, and at the minute are hovering on the idea of 4 nights in New York then 4 nights in Vegas. Though a combination of NY and somewhere beachy would be preferable.
We have set a limit of £4k for the whole holiday what suggestions can you lot make for the beach add on to NY, or to sell vegas to us. Or indeed a perfect beach location that would mean all I had to do was roll out of bed and then do nothing all day. Oh and preferably child free if that exists within my budget.

I'd avoid Vegas as you specify non-chav-filled...
I was thinking that is it really just blinky lights and showgirls? Broken up by fatties sweating over $1 slots? Will look into Cuba as Florida doesn't appeal.
Florida Keys are essentially a string of Carribean islands - if you pick your hotel well it should be fine. Likewise, picking a decent art deco hotel in Miami Beach (not Miami) can also be good. If Cuba appeals, how about the Bahamas or another Carribean island?
When we booked our honeymoon we had a list of criteria for the resort in order to get a good one:
Seaplane transfer - check
Less than 100 rooms - check
All inclusive - check
Water bungalow - check
House reef - check.
Loved it!
We stayed in Veligandu which isn't one of the better known islands - sadly it's been over-developed since we visited (lots more water bungalows). Otherwise we would be returning this year for our 5th anniversary (going to Mauritius instead - November time, so will be warm).
IMHO all inclusive is important as you are a captive on the island and everything costs a fortune. As someone said in a Maldives thread, when you see the final bill, and then AI renders it zero, you'll be glad!

I've just come back from Cape Verde which was a fantastic beach location. You could do as much or as little as you wanted. Went AI in the Riu hotels and would certainly recommend AI as I wasn't overly kean on walking through the town during the day let alone the night! Fabulous hotel and beach though!
