i am looking at going away in september for two weeks. i want a really hot place with decent beaches and good for diving.
i have been to bodrum before and loved it and i am thinking of returning but my other half has said her friends have just got back from egypt and loved it.
i was looking for a 5 star hotel all inclusive and hopefully on a beach front.
they both seam about the same price but after great times in bodrom and worried about security problems in egypt what would be peoples thoughts on this.
also anyone else with good ideas on where to go on a modest budget for a puka holiday for diving and beach/sight seeing and out of the euro?

Egypt....

...diving is fantastic, cheapish, great weather.

Cyprus & Turkey both hot at that time of year. Egypt is cheaper than Cyprus. Diving is different league to both Cyprus & Turkey.

I've been to all 3, including Cyprus & Egypt in the last 9 months!

i did love turkey when i was ther last time about 6 years ago and i am quite font of going back but again would like to try a new place and i really want a decent diving experiance and if possible dive with sharks as a 25 birthday present to myself as it will be my 25th birthday while i am away and that is a life dream.
i have heard thought egypt can be a doddgy place to go and some places you need armed guards. as im with the g/f i don't want that sort of danger surrounding us. also people have said things like the pyrimds are now being defaced and parts sold off by the guards for pocket money and thats a shame as thats a bi reason why i would like to go.

Armed guards??

The hotels have armed guards due to terrorism and the like.

If you travel the world, you will be surprised how many places are the same.

You can walk freely around all the resorts

You can walk freely around London until you get blown up....thinks July 7th..... Security in all Eqyptian resorts has been beefed up considerably. After the last attacks the security became very overt is now more discreet. I've been to Egypt 6 or 7 times in the last few years & Turkey more times than I care to remember over the same period. Neither are 100% safe, but nowehere is. Live you life & ignore the doom merchants like V8mate.

Uh? confused

I'm no doom merchant and I'm not sure how posting one link to a news event could possibly make me so. Paoloh and I were having a light-hearted exchange. Istanbul is just as terrorist-prone as Egypt if you'd like me to balance the argument.

I prefer Turkey because I find Turks to be a nicer bunch of locals than Egyptians. Though if you're a 'resort-type', I guess the locals won't figure very high on your list of requirements wherever you go in the world.

i like the idea of resorts for the fact it has everything i want and is plush and more likely to get decent food and its included in the price and i want to dive and most have there own diving schools and own beach.
i will be going out quite a bit like borum has great night life and at 24 and the other half 21 we need fun at night and we love sight seeing to.
basicly a alround decent holiday, pleant to see plenty to do great food and great beaches with a decent diving scene and to top it off 40 deg c to get warm in :-)

We did Turkey back in May and it has gone up price wise while you are out there ,in the touristy places your looking at spending the same to eat and drink as you would in the UK frown

Just booked for a couple of weeks in Sharm for September as it looks cheaper whilst you are out there

If you want a nile cruise look at VJV - they use 5 star boats (wouldn't go on less) and a good guide company who have the nouse to switch the itinerary a bit so you do Philae and Kombombo in the afternoon rather than the morning when it's less crowded - little things but they count.

The diving in Turkey is no where near as good as the Red Sea, and the terror risk in Egypt is minimal (But then where is completely safe?).

The main thing to be wary of are wine and spirit prices. We went to Hurghada last year and local wine was £18, foreign wine £30+ and gin £10 a measure in the resorteek

The food "poisoning" in Egypt is free though, and rife...
