Palio di Siena

Has anyone here ever been to the Palio di Siena (The horse race in Siena).

I'd love to arrange to go, but preferably with access to a balcony or similar around the square - has anyone got any ideas (all the tickets I've found are very expensive).

I'm looking for some insider tips here.....

As said, good luck getting a balcony or a seat at one of the store fronts. It seems that pretty much all of the tickets end up with locals or friends/family of locals and whats left is very pricey.
We went about 6 years ago but we just slummed it and got in early at the square and picked a good spot by the fence. It was really hot but the atmosphere was great. Take plenty of water and some snacks because there is no shade once you are in there and don't plan on moving except to take turns going to the toilet/shop.
