The last few yeard the missus and I have used Last Minute.com to get a nice cheap deal. However, it does limit your choice quite a lot. This year the missus, my mother and I are plan to go somewher. We need heat, a beach, either self catering or B&B. Is LM.com better than a travel agent for cheap deals?

Any recomendations? Budget £1000-£1500 for flights and accomadation. We're curently thinking the Gambia if anyone's been?

You have to try them all to be sure. I have had times when lastminute were the cheapest and another time when booking hotel with lastminute and flights with expedia was the cheapest combination.

They are not always the cheapest.

I found teletext had some decent value stuff on there.

Also, Expedia tended to be cheaper then Last Minute on average, however I got a great deal on Sharm with LM, which I am due to go on in a weeks time. Can't wait!

Op, if you are thinking of Africa then consider Zanzibar in Tanzania, the missus' family is from Tanzania and she absolutely loves it there. Alternately, I really liked the masai mara and some beach time in Mombasa, Kenya. We stayed at White Sands, which was a nice enough hotel and had a decent pool and access to a stunning beach.

Also, if you do go anywhere in that reason, be sure to try some freshly fried cassava crisps, with some salt, chilli powder and lemon juice, absolutely gorgeous.
