been there twice:
first time was for work a long time ago and didn't really see much other than the bonkers driving
couple of years ago stopped there on a cruise, seemed to be quite a mixture of things to do, we went to a heritage site: a rather unusual fortress/town structure - can't remember the name but was quite nice.

I lived in the North of the Island for a bit near a place called Santa Teresa. What info are you after? Its a big island similar in size to Wales and the north is very different to the south. so you might need to be a bit more specific on where you are considering going or what you want out of your trip!

Thanks andy and everyone else. In fact we've been and gone and done it - leaving on Ryanair 2 Jul for 18 days. Booked into a hotel in Cala Gonone for first week, then taking it from there - hope we can find somewhere after that, as it's high season, but I'm sure we will, seems to be places still available looking on the inetrnet. Probably chill out that first week, lazing on the various lovely beaches described around the area, then maybe get a car or scooter and do some sightseeing. CCCS said:
Drive up the coast to where Andy Ted lived (Santa Teresa)and get the ferry over to Bonifacio in Corsica and stay the night.
I would second that it is well worth the effort to visit Bonifacio - also if you get the chance head up the Eastern Corsican coast to Porto Vecchio (ignoring the bullet holes in the road signs
Back to Sardinia I am presuming you are flying home from Algero so I would work my way round anticlockwise - I never actually made it to where you are starting your trip but presuming you head north from there you will end up passing Olbia and into the Costa Smerelda which is where I would head just to see some of the wealth round there! If big boats and exclusive marinas are your bag then there is Porto Cervo up that way, I actually prefer Porto Retondo as its a bit more realistic!
Working round the coast a bit further you get to Pilau which in itself is not that amazing however you can get a ferry accross to La Maddalenna which is a good for a day trip. There is also a cluster of nature reserve islands which if you fancy a boat trip to then again can be worth a visit. If you have any boating experience then you used to be able to hire ribs from Santa Teresa marina upto 40hp without your ICC and up to 120hp with. I presume the comnpany are still there - you can then do this trip on your own as its a really easy nav. There is also a piano bar near Palau that you can moor up at which is quite cool! Last time I did this trip in a 120hp we saw a US submarine as they have a naval base on La Maddalenna however I am not sure they are still there?
If you windsurf by any chance then Porto Pollo and Porto Liscia are where to head.
There are numerous towns along the way that may take your fancy but Santa Teresa itself centres on a main 'piazza' late night markets and a few bars and restaurants including Papa Satans pizza restauant which is supposedly in the top 100 pizza restaurants in Italy. - best beaches are a bit out of town - follow signs to Capo Testa providing you can find a spot on the beach between all the bronzed Italians and Sardinians though!
There is also Beach Baia near Santa Reparata
Where ever you go I am sure you will have a great time! I am very envious haven't been back for a few years so I am long over due a trip! If you get the chance though do go to Corsica its amazing two islands so close together can be so different in so many ways!
One last thing - the driving and road conditions once you are out of the main areas is 'interesting' to say the least!
have fun and make sure you report back how you got on!
