Ile de Re is the island:

but sorry, have only stayed in a hotel there in La Flotte - nice place anyway - maybe try the Michelin guide for ideas on camp sites?

Matt, I have a several up to date (2008 anyway) French Camp site guides, including the Michelin guide and Cool Camping France. Let me know if you want them, and I will get them over to you somehow.

Depends what you're after really. We've just had a few days in the municipal campsite in St Martin de Re. It's only 2 star, so there's no bog roll or seats (or pool), but it was spotless with a great little cafe friendly staff and it's a short walk into town.

imn just after a campsite thats quiet with not too many screaming little brats thats clean and poss with decent shower blocks/toilets do mind if its in the middle of nowhere as we have a car and after all if god wanted us to walk all the time he wouldnt have let us invent the car wink

I once got up very early in a Hotel In Blois, was transported with my boss, by a surely grunting french man to a Lucas Diesel Systems Factory in La rochelle, where we spent the day looking at how they made a solenoid which we were due to make in Keighley (But never did because the Brummies got the contract)

We never got to see the sea, the town or enjoy a decent meal. Got back to Hotel in Blois at about 9.30 pm hungry tired and fed up.

I hope your trip to La Rochelle is Better .

You should be safe from hordes of brats at the moment (We took our own thoughfrown). The last couple of weeks there were mostly retired/older folk about.
