Skiing honeymoon in December?
Discussion
Morning All,
I'm getting married in December, and we'd planned to go to somewhere like Jamaica for some winter sun for the honeymoon. However realisation has set in and we both accept that I'm useless in hot weather! I get prickly heat y'see.
So we're now thinking about North America/Canada for a week or 10 days skiing. Turns out that travel agents don't offer advice any more, and all you can do is tell them where you want to go and they'll book it (how are they still in business? doesn't everyone have the internet these days?) Looks like I'll resort to the interweb and ask you well travelled folk then!
We're getting married on Sunday 6th, so can fly any time from Monday 7th onwards. Ideally we'd not wait a week or so to leave but it appears from many brochures that tour operators don;t fly from the 12th ish onwards.
Does anyone have any experience of skiing America/Canada this early in the season? I heard somewhere that the season begins in November, and I guess Canada (being more Northerly) will have better snow sooner, but is America skiable?
Any help would be much appreciated guys and girls.
Ta.

Stupid queston, but I take it you can both ski?
You could always combine Hawaii with some ski, 5-7 days skiing and then some beach recoverey.
I shall have a chat with a mate of mine who has skied extensively in N America at all times in the season, I would have thought that Banff / Lake Lousie would be okish for snow. It will be very cold though!

I love Whistler. We normally stay in an aparment instead of a hotel. There are a few people on PH that have places to rent. But, check out the impact of the Winter olympics as they are there in 2010.
Just checked and for your dates it work out very cheap compared to Jan 10

Yup, I was impressed - 10 nights at the four seasons is £2505 inc flights. We haven't looked at apartments, that might be the next step, although a hotel does appeal just for the concierge taking your skis to the lifts (which means I won't have to carry my darling wifeys skis... Start as you mean to go on eh!)Just checked and for your dates it work out very cheap compared to Jan 10

+1 for Whistler. I had 10 days in January this year. Wrap up well, the temp dropped to -25c at the top of Symphony Bowl on Whistler with winds gusting upto 50kmh. It's the coldest I have ever been. That said, the quality/variety/amount of skiing is very good. We didn't stay at the Four Seasons (2 lads, we blew the budget on beer/food and ski tuition), but friends have stayed there and thought it was excellent.
The suggestion of skiing followed by a week on the beach sounds ideal. We were pretty beaten up after 10 days on the mountain.
Have fun!

The original plan (like for about 2 years before we got engaged!) was to have a multi centre hol, with skiing for me and sun for her on the way back. but we've just become realistic about how pathetic I am in the sun The suggestion of skiing followed by a week on the beach sounds ideal. I like the idea of a top hotel... because I'm not paying for it, I don't find it likely that I'll be staying there again any time soon!
