Airline Checkin/Accomodation near Heathrow?
Discussion
Hi guys,
Never flown properly Long Haul by myself before so its a rather new experience. Flying to Australia with Malaysia Airlines in 2 weeks time. Flight leaves Heathrow at 12pm but I can't seem to find any info on their website about when I need to check in by. I'm going to 'check in' online 24 hours early to get a good seat, but what time should I aim to arrive at Heathrow for?
It's quite a trek from Plymouth so I'm guessing I'll need to go up the night before - can anyone suggest cheap and cheerful accomodation (With reasonably priced wifi a bonus!) either in Heathrow or near Paddington? Is it best to get accomodation near the airport or is it just as easy to stay near Paddington and jump on the Heathrow Express?
Thanks guys.

You'll need to be there 3 hours before officially to be on the safe side. I've stayed in Central London and headed out on the Piccadilly underground a few times and it's easy enough (if a bit cramped) to get to Heathrow.
The Heathrow Express is a good option from Paddington too but does cost a few quid more.

Staying at Paddington is fine as long as the (usually reliable) Heathrow Express is running, if not you might have problems.
Personally I would get the travelling out the way the day before and stay at Heathrow - likely to be cheaper than staying in Paddington. Some of the cheaper places on the Bath Road aren't too bad and some are within the free bus zone or very close by. It's been a couple of years since I did it regularly, but the Premier Inn is OK, the IBIS is not so OK. If you are spending a bit more then the Renaissance is fine and the Marriott, Radisson are better still (at a price).

I'd probably stay at the airport. It makes life a lot easier than schlepping it out of London and means you can chill out and start your trip a day earlier.
Hotel wise - i've stayed in a few LHR hotels, Holiday Inn M4 Junction 4, Park Inn on the Concorde roundabout (a few times here), Crowne Plaza (up towards Stockley Park from LHR) and Premier Inn on Bath Road (this one was with work, hence the premier inn). Out of these they're all decentish, but my preference is the Crowne Plaza, probably followed by the Park inn.
I usually book the hotel through parking4less. They have some awesome deals on where you have a 'mystery' hotel for a cheap rate (the Crowne Plaza last year was about £120ish for 2 rooms and 2.5 weeks parking - cheaper than parking alone
). Think they also do room only though.

If you are going out of terminal 5 (unlikely given the airline you mention, but I thought I'd throw my experience in the ring for anyone else looking in); The Sofitel which is attached to T5 is a 5 minute walk from checkin only having to cross a pedestrian bridge to the terminal. Usually get a room (without over-priced breakie) for a few quid over £100
Have a read of this http://www.londontoolkit.com/lhr/hotel_hoppa_bus.h... for info on bus transfers. Not tried them myself so no recommendations.
Fox - if it's the Premier Inn try to make sure it's the Bath Road one. It's a lot better than the one up by the M4 Junction 4.
There's the heathrow hoppa bus, this is about £3ish each way iirc (not took it for a while, usually find a taxi to be not much more and bit more comfortable).
