a reasonable central london hotel that I could take a group of 12 kids to without fear of who might be along the corridor?
I know google is the usual recommendation for this kind of thing but there are far far too many options to pick the right one and any I have used personally or for work have been at the higher end of the market.
Have considered youth hostels but a lot of the London based ones have shared dorm type rooms and as the kids will be 11/12 years old don't really fancy that.

Surely as long as they are in single-sex groups it's fine. School trips at that age are all dorm-style and if any of them are Scouts etc they'll be used to 14 to a tent!
Myself and a mate were in the Umi Hotel in Bayswater and that seemed popular amongst school groups throughout our 3 week stay! There were plenty of school groups staying and the staff seemed very helpful to the needs of the yoof
