Any suggestions please..? middle of the road budget but must be in the city centre. I have no idea of the layout/where is close to the attractions.

Can't search for past threads as that facility is blocked at work frown

Hi Claire, wavey

Sorry I've haven't got any personal suggestions, but this thread has a couple. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've also found this site to be pretty useful when looking for the real info on hotels too. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/HACSearch?geo=&q=...

I stayed here:

http://www.daphne-rome.com/

Really nice english-speaking staff, nice room, really good location. Rather expensive but there don't really seem to be many cheap hotels in Rome. Still worth it in my opinion.

cannot help with the hotel, been too long for me, but if you are within a few minutes of the trevi fountain / spanish steps you are within walking distance of most of the major attractions.

We went last summer and stayed at the Ariston Hotel.

It had just been refurbished and the room was excellent. Re-stocked fridge everyday was a bonus and buffet continental breakfast included. We booked through Laterooms.com.

Staff were excellent and very helpful. Looking at about £100-£140 per room depending on what you want.

It's located near the central train station which is ideal if you want to make life as easy as possible as all lines (underground, train, tram) lead there. Was 1 euro each way at the time too.

To be honest we were surprised at how small Rome is. We ended up walking to most places, or walking one way and getting public transport the other.

Take a look at www.tripadvisor.com and see what others thought. I NEVER book a hotel anywhere without first looking here.

Just type Rome into the Search bar and choose Hotels to see the top rated hotels with prices.

I was at the Starhotels Michelangelo (booked through easytobook.com) for one night last week - highly recommended - nice room, very good helpful staff.

It's near Vatican City is a little way out from the other tourist spots, but theres a bus stop around the corner - took about 20 mins to the Colliseum (1 euro each!) so location not a big deal.
