Whats the furthest down you can get on the Eurotunnel?

How long did it take to get to Lyon? the AA route planner says just under 8 hours but i imagine it would be quicker than that?
From memory a good 6 hours, more like 7 with a few short breaks and refuelling. The best bit is avoiding Paris, I took a road down from Calais > Reims > Troyes > Dijon > Lyon. Lyon was a pretty busy place traffic wise.ETA: If you've not got any kids with you, have a good navigator/sat nav, a patient OH, a good, fast, reliable, mile muncher and you think you're up to it yourself, you can do it in a day. Many on PH have done much further than me, but I did breakfast in the Costa Brava and on the ferry in Calais just about at the witching hour. I was a bit tired when I got on that ferry mind..lol!!

Unless there's a real reason why you need to have your own (RHD) car down there, surely it's easier to fly into Nice (sleasyjet) and hire a car there? August should be far enough in advance to get good price for flights and car. Don't forget if driving down you have to factor in tunnel, hotel stop, fuel and the Autoroute costs.

Bear in mind that the traffic around St Tropez in August is terrible.
I flew into Nice in August a few years back... Took me about another 4 hours on the road to get to St Tropez - there didn't seem to be any particular bottle neck, just hordes of fellow tourist traffic slowing everything to a trickle! It was managemable, but I certainly wouldn't want to encounter that having already driven all the way from the UK!VxDuncan said:

I've just done this trip and the tolls from Nice to Calais were 80 Euros. Another 120 Euros for fuel, 100 Euros for the tunnel (one way), plus a boring 12 hour drive...
Green Flag route planner I find quite useful. It'll give you rough toll and fuel costs too.
