A mate of mine got engaged over the weekend and has asked me to be best man which is both a huge honour and scary as hell!

Since the wedding is early next year, the first job is to arrange the stag do. The groom is making noises about going to Tallinn or one of the baltic states, which I'm also keen on as I've never travelled to that area.

I'd be interested to hear anyone's opinion's on the relative merits of each of these places, as I don't know very much about any of them. At the moment, Vilnius is looking least favorite, simply because there are very few flights that go there from the UK and consequently the ones that do are relatively expensive. My other concern is that it's likely to be pretty cold, as the trip is likely to be in March or even February!

One of the most enjoyable stag weekends I've been on was in Riga, staying in the centre of the old town (4/5 years ago). If you're stuck for activities, take a look at bobsledding in Sigulda...

Riga is probably the best for a stag do. There are plenty of restaurants, bars etc around the old city.

Vilnius is a great city, my favourite of the three, but perhaps it's a little sleepy for stag weekends and suchlike.

a couple of good friends of mine run a company that specialises in stag do's to eastern europe, they will give you the right advise based on whether you are after a slagfest or are looking for tours of the museums.

With respect, their advise will be spot on. Not something you can guarantee from a web forum. Tell them that greg sent you!

I've worked out in Vilnius, and it is a stunning city. I agree, it is too up-market for a stag though. Has by far the best looking girls IMO.

Did you go to the Batmanus pub and that odd one with the massive alligator for a bar?

Not so far as I remember! We arrived by overnight bus (no proper sleeping) and only had two nights there, so we didn't really explore the nightlife fully!

It would be a great city to visit for a few days of relaxing, drinking tea and wandering about. Must go back one day smile

I went on a stag do to Riga last year. Unfortunately, three separate incidents left us with a pretty bad impression of the place, although in fairness, these were of the sort that could happen in just about any city (credit card cloning, etc). However, I've spoken to a few other people who've been there and their feedback was generally positive. I also had probably the best steak I've ever eaten while there...

Riga is a great place, top bars, clubs and if you and the lads are into them lap dancing clubs. Some ideas here - http://www.stagweb.co.uk/cityguide/europeancitygui...

I don't know if they are still as good but the lesser known guide 'In Your Pocket' is excellent for Eastern Europe.

Would suggest checking out their website.

10 years late for all 3 of those cities.

They have now become Butlins for Eastern Europe.

go to riga, vilnius and [to a lesser extent] talinn seem to have escaped the stag crowd and are much nicer cities for it [i echo the comments re: lithuanian women cloud9].

plus, as someone has pointed out already, you can get the train to sigulda and go bobsledding which is a simply fantastic experience. i went with 4 mates and we stayed overnight there and stubled across the only nightclub in town which just so happened to be booked out for a hen night. they let us in, we had a nice time biggrin

Tallinn would be a lovely place to visit in winter (I've been, several times). The Old Town lit up at night in the snow is simply magical.

However it's best suited to smaller groups and a slightly older crowd. Tallinn has tried very hard to discourage lager lout tourism, and large groups of beery lads won't get into anywhere other than the seediest bars.

I live in Vilnius for a few years now. In the cities 3 for living, Vilnius is really the nicest place, but clearly, it is Riga who got "specialised" more in the stag activities.
Depends what you're looking for exactly, as in Riga Stag parties became a real little industry, everything became very "professional", in Tallin and Vilnius everything is less focused on foreigners wanted parties, so it is another experience.

by the way, Riga - Vilnius is about 3 hours bus trip, so it still possible to visit both places very easily.
