I cannot believe how expensive Ferries are too France. eek

I have just been looking at Portsmouth to St. Malo, Poole to Cherbourg and Portsmouth to Le Havre - prices are £300 upwards.

The Chunnel only comes out at £200 (ok bit further to drive in France).

Just paid £38 return Norfolk Line Dover to Boulogne.
Are you going at the height of summer or on your own private boat? smile

I am trying to get to the more Westerly French ports - Cherbourg, St. Malo, Caen etc.

These appear to only be served from Portsmouth, Poole, Weymouth - I assume this is why the cost is so high.

Oh well - looks like Dover/ Folkestone to Calais it is then - just more of a drive on the other-side. driving

Take a look at LD Lines for Portsmouth to Le Harve. They tend to be much cheaper than Brittany and only a bit further East than Caen.

But the boats (especially the new one) are no where near as good as Brittany.

Fine if you are overnight - a cabin is a cabin, but for the daytime crossings, it makes a big difference. So much more space and things to do on the Brittany boats.

As a homeowner in France, we have signed up to the Brittany Club. Discounts and free cabins/upgrades smile
