I'd really welcome any assistance that could be offered!

The wife and I are keen to get away for a week in the middle of August. Luckily budget is not an issue-indeed I am looking for a bit of luxury! I'd prefer to avoid long haul if possible (but accept it may not be!). Beach for relaxation plus a bit of history would be nice.

However the over-whelming obstacle is that I'd like to get out of the UK, and the wife does not want a temperature in excess of 30 degrees c.

If anyone has any suggestions for destinations, they would be gratefully received!

Portugal rarely gets that hot, as it's on the Atlantic coast.

Otherwise, Cape Town won't be hot, features excellent luxury - and it's an overnight flight without jet-lag...

Of course, it won't actually be warm enough for the OP's missus to sit on the beachbiggrin

biggrin cheers both - much appreciated - never thought of cape town, and will look into that and Portugal.

Any other ideas welcomed!

As per our little joke above - it would be mid-winter in Cape Town, and the weather can be truly atrocious - it wouldn't be a beach holiday.

However, good weather in CT for winter tends to be 20oC and sunny.

Off the wall.

Stuff the beach. Go visit the Canadian Rockies. Fantastic scenery and super-dooper luxurious hotels. I recommend the Lake Moraine hotel.

It will be high summer there - but you are unlikely to get temps any higher then 20C.

And the roads. Wow. The roads.

The northern Greek Islands Like Skiathos where there is a nice sea breeze should be just below 30. How about the Baltic Coast, great culture (Germany, Sweden, Estonia etc) and should be nice and warm but not too hot! Iceland may also be a good shot!
