I'm thinking of trying something different this year and taking the family (two adults two teenagers) down to France on the ferry or chunnel. While I've done Le Mans a few times I've not a clue about suitable venues elsewhere in France within reasonable driving distance.
The other half fancies a Gite I have no preference but we need to give the girls something to do also so I'm thinking close to a local town.
Any advice gladly recieved.

Cheers

Steve

Jumping in on this somewhat I was looking at that region next year for a late summer holiday. I will bookmark that - looks lovely.

My own thoughts for what they're worth:

I like the stretch of coast between St Malo and Cherbourg if you want a beach type holiday - this will also give good access to all of the D Day beaches and landmarks (if you are into that sort of thing)

A bit further afield, the area around the Loire Atlantique (La Rocehelle etc.) is also very nice with plenty to do and see.

If you want to just chill out we had a great break in the Limousin region - not far from the Dordogne. Spectacular scenery and some picturesque towns but not a great deal to do and nearly no nightlife at all.
