Budget of around £1500 for flights and bed and breakfast accomadation. Need to go in August as thats the only time off. 10-17nights, any where considered.

Help me folks, I'm getting a right hard time from SWMBO.

Total budget. Could be raised if the destination was cheap to eat etc and vice versa.

Ask her where she'd like to go then?

The big problem this year is that thanks to the one eyed, mouth breathing, scottish stroke victim your £ is worth 40% less. Trips into the Euro zone are now financially very painful. Trips everywhere else are just more painful. You get through a lot of money now.
So all inclusives make a lot of sense.
For that much money you may well get a Caribbean break or something quite nice in Turkey.

biggrin Camping in Scotland? It'll be painful this year but you'll never have to do it again*

Check out Oyster Residence in Olu Deniz.

22 rooms. No children allowed. Owned by a well regarded (apparently) Turkish interior designer. Closest hotel to the beach in the whole resort but entirely peaceful during the day.

But no more expensive than a UK Travelodge!

I booked direct with the travel agent next door to the hotel (who organised great transfers for us too!)

South Africa is still cheap, but not cheap to fly to. Not sure about the weather in August.

Caribbean in August is pretty brave too, what with hurricane season cranking up in July.
If there's one month I wouldn't go to the caribbean, it would be august.

What do you actually want to do? Vegetate on a beach? Culture? Activities?

Africa's a good call. SA will be in the depths of winter and Namibia will be similar but Mozambique is on the Indian Ocean so is warmer. There's always the standby of Tanzania/Zanzibar. Have to admit though that you might end up spending most of your cash on flights.

How about Northern Spain - Bilbao/San Sebastian and the Pyreneesdriving

Have you considered a cruise? I did my first cruise with Thomsons and really enjoyed it - got an all inclusive deal so drinks & food all taken care of. Very good entertainment and a new location to explore everyday! I did around the Med' but there are more exotic cruises if thats what you're after.

What I'm after is beach time for vegetating purposes, (no sardine-tin style beach hell holes with Gaz, Tracy and all their God forsaken spawn running around) and some cultural local towns/markets etc to visit.
Spain is always a possibility, although my arm is in a sling so no decent driving roads please - I just couldn't bear it.
