Got a holiday booked to Mexico in Aug for a couple of weeks. Paid £50 to hold hotel etc. But the deposit is due on Friday and I am undecided what to do.

I appreciate everything going on at the moment would deter people from going. Is it likely to be all over with in three months, or is it simply a case it's out the press so we think it's ok like previous outbreaks; SARS etc? I am not one to over-react to these things, i.e would never stop eating because of mad cow disease etc, but it's a lot of money.

Insurance company would only pay up if you are forbidden to travel to Mexico, not if I decide it's too dodgy nearer the time.

What would you do?

Insurance companies go on Foreign Office advice 7 days before date of travel or sooner in my experience.
All our suppliers doing organised tours in Mexico have cancelled everything for May and some aren't keen on June either.
It'd be a calculated risk to go there IMO!

UK Travel companies offered to repatriate holiday makers in Mexico for free but most stayed over there.

I'd go, no problem.

Lets put it this way, over 30,000 people every year die from flu in the US alone, less than a couple of hundred in the entire world have died of swine flu.

It is media hype to sell papers.
