Barbados & Miami (with 3 yr old) ?

We're off to Barbados & Miami in June with our 3 yr old.
Any firsthand hotel recommendations from PH ? - I have the Trip Advisor view which, imo, is not always reliable.
Safety, quiet, cleanliness & beach are important - also nowhere that will be full of package holidays.
Budget is not quite Sandy Lane levels - Hilton Barbados looks OK at the moment.

lovely beach at the hilton, but very dangerous undertow....beware, I nearly drowned after a few rum punches
