Hello Ladies and Gents,

I was after some recomendations for any nice area's or places to stay in or around the east coast or whithin about 2 hours drive of the surrey middlesex area, ideally it needs to be on a beach or coast or very near one or the other, decents walks and small towns nearby would also be good for dinner etc.

Thanks for any suggestions !!

I live in East Suffolk (Woodbridge) so can hopefully offer you a few pointers!!

What are you after as a base? B&B / Small Hotel / Plush Hotel / (dare I say) Caravan?

Also, what are your priorities for the break? Peace & quiet or somewhere with a few decent restaurants etc?

The travelling time works OK, as you can get up here easily (traffic permitting) in about 45mins / 1hr from the M25.

I'd personally base either in the Woodbridge area, or up in Southwold, but this will lead to an extra 30mins journey time for you.

I'd go with a riverside B&B, and you can then whizz to the coast in a few minutes or walk along the Deben straight from the B&B - Woodbridge has some half decent pubs / restaurants & doesn't attract the quantity of tourists that Southwold does...

Hope that helps (a bit)

Great stuff looking at B&B and guest houses around the £100 per night mark, first wedding anniversary but on a budget so some decent pubs / restaurants would be helpfull if the beach is within walking distance 5-10 minutes then that would be ok too.

Cheers

I have used http://www.sawdays.co.uk to find decent B&Bs if I don't know the area.

I've used the site a number of times and the places listed on there have always been very good.

Likewise.

If you're after self catering my brother's got a cottage in that part of the world he lets out. PM me if you want details.

In Woodbridge area,I'd go for either of these:

http://www.uniquehomestays.com/unique/details.asp?...

Walking distance to good pubs & restaurants.

Or, on the other side of the river Deben,so more secluded and less walking access to town is this:

Ferry Farm B&B

Ferry Farm
Sutton Hoo IP12 3DR
Telephone: 01394 382634

A 16th Century farmhouse situated next to the River Deben. Rooms have colour TVs, courtesy trays and ensuite facilities.

Other option is Seckford Hall Hotel (rather pleasant) www.seckford.co.uk - not too adrift on budget and very good value on dinner, b&b rate as well...

Hope that helps

Another local (Rushmere in Ipswich)

In addition would suggest the Crown and Castle in Orford where this is based http://www.lady-florence.co.uk/. Not much there is terms of shops

Aldeburgh some nice shopping and a trad beach with a walk up to Thorpeness. Fantastic F&C's

Seckford Hall - the rooms were a bit tired a couple of years ago

If you do opt for Woodbridge - hearty recommendation for The Riverside... riverside.t83.net/

The meal & cinema deal comes highly recommended - the restaurant is a favourit of mine, excellent food, not formal and attentive yet relaxed service.

If the weather is good then I've sat on their terrace for hours after a meal with a cigar & brandy...

Aldeburgh/Southwold/Walberswick are all worth a look if you are after quiet and quaint seaside villages.

Yep, we must have been there simultaneously at some time. Owner has some nice motors.

Also in Woodbridge - The Galley, Spice bar and Browsers for amazing cake on the cheap
