Travel insurance via a credit card.

If it is anything like the free cover you get with these silly premium current accounts that you have to pay for monthly, then it is the most basic of basic and isn't really worth the paper it is written on if the worst happens.
Basic cover is all fine and dandy if you don't have to claim...

Splash the cash.
My mate had a mishap when we were on holiday in November and his £60 annual worldwide cover was a godsend.
Looking at my credit card cover, he'd have been staring at a £10k hit if he'd relied on that.
If you can afford the trip, you can afford to insure it. Don't take the chance!
I bill overseas patients at the hospital I work at, and the number without insurance is frightening. I can assure you it's a mistake folk only ever make once. If you want some numbers to frighten you into it then just let me know.

I concur here!
Credit Card insurance is usually the most basic around i.e. a bit rubbish!
Insurance included with monthly fee Bank Accounts like HSBC Plus is pretty decent, but for the sake of not a lot of cash, a seperate Travel Insurance policy is usually going to be the best route to take! It's more comprehensive than anything else and as before if you want some shocking figures, I can add a few more too

I'm not considering being uninsured, and not even keen on being under insured either. Suffice to say a friend broke her back in a fall in the Alps a couple of year ago so I am aware of potential issues.
We were having a think as the annual policy is up for renewal and the "rewards" we get on the current CC are barely worth spending. Something like the Natwest Black card which costs £250pa but gives you travel insurance, breakdown cover including Europe and a concierge service (WTF??) looks like better value than what we're getting at the moment once buying everything individually is totted up.
We're not going to get a different current acc though as what we have suits us well.
