Going to be driving to the Dordogne (Sarlat, Vitrac) in August this year and am getting increasingly worried about the cost of the tolls !
Making a journey of it (and not using toll roads) is not really an option as two toddlers in the car for that lengh of time is also filling me with dread if I am honest. Just want to get there and put them in the pool/play park and hope they forgive me !
So has anybody got an idea of what it might cost or a website to use to try and get an idea ?
Any thoughts would be gratefully received !
Also if this needs to be moved to another forum then please do not hesitate (bring back P+P so much easier) !

Most of that route is Toll free thumbup

I'd suggest using Le Havre or Caen for this trip - avoiding a large stretch of autoroute from Rouen to Calais. Our kids (only 11 months and 2.5) sleep well on the overnight crossings on this route.

ViaMichelin gives the total toll cost at an extremely reasonable €18.40

(yes, this is the best route from Le Havre - they are fast roads)

Edited to add - get an in-car DVD player system!

Thanks Puggit !
A few questions if I may ?
I am going to be going over on the via the Eurotunnel so Calais is it I'm afraid (Thanks Tesco!)it doesn't seem a great deal of differnece to be honest in terms of Euro ! I have been expecting massivie bills.
How do the tolls work ?
For example do you give them a final destination ? Or pay when you get off ? I am guessing ticket on pay when you leave but not sure ?
Kids will be 2 years and 3.5 + an older teenager who will be equally as fed up I'm sure. Car at the moment has roof mounted DVD but will be changing before we go hopefully will be getting headrests DVD's then will keep everyone happy.
Thanks in advance.

Most tolls work on the principle of taking a ticket as you enter the autoroute, and then when you leave they check your ticket for entry point and then work out the distance as cost.

On some shorter stretches you'll just pay at a fixed rate for that stretch, regardless of where you exit.

ViaMichelin will take you via Paris from Calais to Sarlat. For 9km more you can go via Rouen. This avoids the A1, A11 and some of A10 which are primary autoroutes (think M1 equivalent yuck).

Good luck - I wouldn't try it!
