Wifey has decided that 'we' want to go to Wales for the day tomorrow, so where would be an interesting spot to head for, Northish Wales I guess, as we are heading over from Staffordshire. Not necessarily looking to go to the coast, but some scenery would be good, maybe a funfair for the sprog, some flower stuff for the MIL and some interesting roads for me, not motorway or dead straight A roads/dual carriageway.

Any suggestions?

Yes. Take an umbrella. Wales makes Manchester look like the Mohave Desert.

That is just down the road from Talgarth.

If you love books. Hay on Wye is the place to be.

take the road heading east and keep going until you reach civilzation....ie England or swim west to Ireland.....not as many nervous sheep there.

At the moment though, this is not true.

It was colder inside than outside here earlier, with a warm breeze (im in Swansea, by the way)

The weather lately has been fantastic, If you have the chance to venture further south (or just fancy leaving early and driving through the brecon beacons on the way) The Gower and the Mumbles are bloody lovely, and well sized for a day trip.

You could see most of it in a day easily, also I have a friend from Wrexham who makes it down here in about 3 hours so you should be fine.

Some great places to eat aswell, if you make your way down here try the Oxwich bay hotel, the beer garden opens out onto the beach (good food + nice place to stay)

Beaumaris

Worth seeing are the courthouse, gaol and castle. The courthouse was still in use when I was last in there, interesting seeing the magistrates behind iron spiked railings.

The wife has had a popular (single) vote and she has decided we are going to Portmeirion. Looks like it could be interesting, and not too far to drive. If it isn't too brilliant then onward to Anglesey.

Cheers folks. biggrin

There's a reason those valleys are so green!

Being half Welsh I've crossed the Severn Bridge more than most - the number of times it starts raining half way across is phenomenal!

Portmeirion is a lovely if slightly odd place, but much nicer in the sun!

Beddgelert is always a nice place to kill an hour strolling along the river, but again better in the sun.

N Wales is distinctly lacking in wet weather things to do.

Yes indeed, and now a certain person is saying they'd rather just go to Birmingham, shopping....

I honestly give up, trying to think of things to do to entertain three women of three generation! rage

One likes to shop, one likes to relax and look at flowers, the other wants to go on play parks and kiddies stuff.

Me, I just want to go in my garage and work on my car.

Living in Wales and working in Bristol I suspect I may have crossed the bridge even more times than you. Been finding recently that the weather improves the closer I get to home.

In the summer Portmerion's beach is good.

Portmerion to Ynys Mon is further than it looks but beautiful scenery if you must.
