Reliable Hotel Booking Websites ?

Any recommendations for websites that actually allow you to book the dates initially selected ?
Too often, I find that I drill down to the booking page, only to be told that my chosen dates are unavailable......

No hard and fast rules that I've found. When booking a hotel in Singapore last year I went through a few and Expedia had the best rates and rooms in the place I wanted. At other times they're rubbish (price and availability).

I suspect that they all block book rooms and you just have to search around to see who hasn't used up their block yet.
