Fraser Island Australia. Accomodation?
Discussion
Planning a firs time trip to Aus this xmas for 3 weeks. Have people/relatives to see and stay with in Perth and Sydney, so have time to visit Fraser Island. The plan is to fly to Brisbane first. A trip to Trail Finders for flights etc and they have recommended King Fisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island. Appreciate there is very limited places to stay on the Island but has anyone been there or opinions of this hotel. I'm not after 5 star luxury. Eurong Beach Resort on the other side of the Island doens't have very good reviews on Trip Advisor. Plan to stay there for 3 days, and take the 4x4 adventure one of the days. Too long? Not enough? Will then drive on down to Byron Bay ( The Byron at Byron Resort ) for 2 days, back to Brisbane flying to Sydney for xmas. Any help/recommendations/suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks G.
Thanks G.
I'd camp as well - been there twice and absolutely love the place.
Hire a 4x4 with all the camping gear (plenty of places offer this, we hired ours from a chap in Noosa (another excellent place!)). Then jump on the ferry and start yuor adventure! I'd definitely recommend camping at India Head one night and waking up early and climbing the cliffs - from there you can wtch the tiger sharks feeding at dawn if you're lucky.
I'd also make sure you take in Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabbi!
It can take a while to get around on the island, particularly when travelling about inland which is one of the main reasons I'd recommend camping otherwise you limit your time quite a bit if you have to drive back to the hotel everynight.
Enjoy!

Another vote for camping here. We did an organised tour out of Noosa and camped just near Eurong. Call my slightly cynical, but I'd also bear in mind that Trailfinders will suggest the hotel that pays them most commission. I'd say like others that you don't need to stay in a nice hotel to get the real Fraser experience, but if you do want a hotel, drop me an email and I'll have a look at options from a different UK travel agents POV

No idea why i looked in this section. Hate this new P&P.
Frazer island is fantastic, done this about 10 years ago while traveling Australia. Camped on the island for 3 days. Must say it was one of the best experiences I've ever had.
Hired a few 4x4's as there become a big group of us who all ended up traveling together.
Loads of memories but what sticks in my mind was washing potatoes in the sea at knees depth with some nutty German bloke, crapping myself that a tiger shark would suddenly beach itself and gobble us up.
Make sure you see all the lakes. Lake McKenzie is superb and like a little paradise, IIRC the water is so pure you can drink it.
Like Andy says, watch out for the Dingos as they nick anything in sight.
As for Byron Bay if you go at the right time of year you can see whales in the water. Really liked that place and very chilled back. Best chicken kebabs I've ever tasted there, nothing like here at all. Ask about Nimbin when you get there.....then again just google it
