I'm off the the Nurburgring soon for a driving day. We'll have a week in the area so what's worth visiting? I'm into photography too so is there anything worth picturing? Might have to have a day 'shopping' too so which town / city should that be?

The Italian, think its called Pinochios' in Adeneur (check spelling) is splendid for a meal out. Menus come in english too, which is useful!

I'd try to make time to visit the road curcuit. Apparently a great driving road, with some classic and famous corners.

HTH cool

I agree on Pinocchios - great food and MASSIVE portions. Seeing as its your birthday have a beer in the 3 litre glass.... You can't miss it, its on the main street just before the Brauhaus.

Well its pretty close to the touristy places on the Ruhr, Bingen etc.

Koblenz is a nice city and that's about 45 mins away.

Make sure you take the autobahn. It's derestricted a lot of the way and meanders through the forest. You can drive it as fast as you like.........legally!

There are actually two of these within an hours drive of Nuerburg. The closer is at Altenahr; if you come to Nuerburg from the North down the B257 you'll drive past it. There's a bit of other stuff there too, it's worth half a day if you have kids aged 8+ (minimum age to ride solo).
The other is next to the Wildpark (Boar and Deer park, also has llamas, donkeys etc.) It's steeper and faster, but a bit more expensive. Take in the Wildpark too and it's a full day out.

For photography, Cochem (30km South) is very pretty, as is Nuerburg castle itself (cheap entry, too). You can also get close to the track from a number of places; there's usually someone testing something most weekday daytimes. Hohe Acht is worth a look (and climb), too.

Further afield is Fantasialand near Bonn, a proper theme park with good rides (and typically long queues)

It is a 'touristy' area, just not an international one - think Tenby rather than London.

There is a nearby town called Bad Munstereifel which is very nice, good little shops and a pleasant back road drive....
