Can i travel by Eurotunnel to the Uk without a passport?
Discussion
Title says it all really. I am a UK citizen living abroad. I have sent my passport off to be renewed at the uk embassy in Düsseldorf. It hasn't come back yet and i could do with driving back to the UK this weekend to collect my new car.
Will customs and immigration allow me to do this with a UK drivers licence as identification?
Cheers

Possibly.
Last year coming back from France on the ferry, the girlfriend thought she had lost her passport.
After much stress and it somehow being my fault we had to go to customs French side where they would have classed her passport as lost and let her through after a few forms were filled out. She then found it.
Although it's not exactly the same case as yours, you may be lucky.

You *might* get back into the UK without your passport (think this is down to the descretion of the person you speak to on the day), but you won't be able to return to Germany without it!Last year coming back from France on the ferry, the girlfriend thought she had lost her passport.

You might be able to get into the UK (easier if you are travelling with a group of others who all have passports) but getting out again would probably not happen without your passport.
A few years ago a mate lost his passport in a field at Le Mans (think it was actually taken by a group of Danes as payment for him drinking their beers), we stopped off in Paris on the way back to Calais to get some paperwork from the Embassy and had no problems at the border. Any chance you can speak to the guys in Dusseldorf and see what they can do?

I could give them a ring but 1. its a sodding premium rate call and 2. its really not that important i go this weekend. I was only contemplating it if it would be no issue.A few years ago a mate lost his passport in a field at Le Mans (think it was actually taken by a group of Danes as payment for him drinking their beers), we stopped off in Paris on the way back to Calais to get some paperwork from the Embassy and had no problems at the border. No. You need to show a passport to enter the UK.
I used to have a girlfriend in Portugal and when she came to the UK, all she had to show was her national ID card.Just say that you're from Ethiopia and that you are against the local goverment and wish to claim asylum. OR...get a false passort from Dubai, break international law and travel to the UK and claim asylum, because back home in Jordan the cops are after questioning you about a bombing that took place. You'll be more than welcome.
Apart from that, try to get a temp passport from your local embassy, this can take a day. (A bit late now I guess)
If you're really desperate, can you have the car delivered on the French side? Might cost a fair bit though.
