How Expensive is Europe !!!!!!

Just come back of a short skiing break in Italy and while I know it's always been expensive it just seems to have become ridiculous. The best price we could buy a pint of beer for was five Euro's the worst nine. A croissant on the mountain with a cup of coffee eight quid. I know the Euro is almost on Parity with the pound but the Europeans just seem to be taking the piss.
I pity the Economy of the usual summer holiday venues like Greece and Spain because the Brits are going to stay away. There were eight of us in our party all blokes and not one of us had booked a foreign holiday this summer, not because of the recession but because of the feeling that the Europeans are just taking the piss right royally.
If Italy was expensive one of our party skied France two weeks ago and said it was even worse. Rhyl here we come this summer.
Or am I just getting old?.

You are going to the wrong bit. Northern Spain is excellent, no brit tourists so no silly prices. A beer and a coffee are about 4 quid in very civilised surroundings and weather. Europe 1999-2007. USA 2008. Cornwall 2009!
I used to love Portugal, prices seemed to double when they joined they Euro, then shot up from that high level recently.
Maybe I'll go next year & stay away from the too touristy bits, like last poster suggested..

Europe is really no more expensive than most of the UK. London prices are comparable to Paris, I'd imagine. Southern France, in the holiday hotspots, is like Devon/Cornwall. In the rural areas it's very reasonable to most things - beer, shopping, gifts, days out etc etc. My parents go there a lot and holiday on a budget all the time..

Paris is currently the most expensive City in the world, outside Japan (Tokyo and Osaka are 1st/2nd).Southern France priced like Devon/Cornwall?

London is very similar to Leeds for most things (cinema/theatre is a LOT more).Paris though, I've heard very bad things about Paris in terms of stupendous expense, not been myself but it's been a subject on here before.
The euro is putting me off a european hol this year, parts of Turkey aint bad though, and still cheap.

i'm not sure its the Europeans taking the piss, its just the exchange rates that are causing it.... my parents live there and over xmas paying 96 quid for every 100 euro rather than the 75 quid is used to be was massively painful.
