Going to be having our jollys in the uk this yr, so need some inspiration. We have a baby so need self catering ideally. We live in Derbyshire which is about as far as you can get from the sea in the uk, so nice seaside resorts wanted.

Open to anything except skegness!

What about somewhere like Devon? Nice beaches etc.. Bit of a trek mind.

Cornwall - beautiful, plenty to do and see, great beaches, interesting towns and villages to wander round. Just keep away from the really busy bits...

It has to be Cornwall for me too!I intend on spending a few weeks there this summer. Polperro, Looe, Mousehole, Fowey, Mevagissey - all lovely places.

We took our two year old to Cornwall last year. We stayed in a cottage in early September (out of season so a bit cheaper than August).

It was excellent. The weather was pretty good, the cottage was clean and had everything included (power etc etc).

We stayed around Widemouth Bay just outside Bude.

September in Cornwall for us too, loads to do and some stunning coast to explore, we are staying just outside Falmouth which is a great centre for the far west.

ha I used ot live right near Burnham Market, or 'Chelsea by the sea' as its locally called....

its very nice, but not alot to do in the village... which means you have to drive places to the beach etc...

Ok thanks the the reply's so far, strongly favouring St ives and Cornwall. I'm lucky in that as soon as there's a break in the weather, i can get time off straight away as long as it's not easter or half term wk. So will have a few destinations in mind then book it and go next day or so.

House swap. Plenty out there. Then you can go wherever someone who wants to swap with you lives. In the UK or abroad.

I've got to go stay up here ideally in or near Southwold next week. Can anyone reccomend a lodge or cottage or even a holiday camp type thing that would be nice to stay with the good lady?

West Coast of Scotland: Skye, Lewis or Mull. Plenty of self-catering available. Stunning scenery. Perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday. Reasonably young-child friendly. Sod all to do for teens.
