Amsterdam coffee shops recomendations
Discussion
well im going to Amsterdam on Wednesday with my mate from work for what I could only describe as a rest and relaxation 3 days. I think you get my drift.
I have been before with some other friends a couple of years back and for obvious reasons I cannot remember where I went and what I really did.
Can anyone recomend some good coffee shops for I and him to frequent on our mini lads holiday? we are staying apparently 6 minutes from the centraal station (probably more like 3 hours). so anywhere around there is good, though not that bothered about venturing out too far. I remember going to the old police station Bulldog cafe last time and walking past a sex museum nr the red light district, no idea if they are near each other.
thanks in advance.

http://www.rokerij.net/ is my favourite. I also go to the Grasshopper 'for old times sake'
my personal favorate is cafe 420.
from centraal station walk down damraak. when you get to then end of the street where the canal basin ends and the big biulding starts - the
grasshopper cofffeshop is to the left. go right instead down a little back alley, bought halfway along you see cafe 420 - little brown ex pub opposite a bakery.
excellent smoke, good music, excellent tea.
used to be known as 'de kruil'
looking it up on googlemaps its on Ouldebrugsteeg between damrak and nieuwendijk

ha quite true, we do plan to go to the heineken(sp) factory if that is slightly better.... also we have also accepted that we will probably go to Ann Franks gaff, and the Zoo is actually a great idea, the animals may actually be more interesting.... We cannot stay in cafe's all day... Can we? but you are correct, from what I do remember, I did like the city, the tall buildings and canals were very nice indeed.PaulHogan said:

Avoid any of the Grasshopper chain, they're like the Starbucks of coffee shops, Oh, wait..you get what I mean, overpriced and a poor selection, don't waste time and money in there, there's much better on offer elsewhere. Try and find NooN, can't remember the street name but it's pretty much opposite the Reijksmuseum. Go in and buy some "Isolator" then kiss your ass goodbye.Nocebo said:

We had time to kill so we went in there... It was really nice, but now thinking about it, it was expensive...
