Honeymoon Locations - where and when?
Discussion
Need to start looking into honeymoon destinations.
Current potentials are pretty standard, but I know nothing about them:
- Bali
- Zanzibar
- Maldives (although I have bookmarked a recent thread on that)
- Carribean
- Mexico
Anyone got first-hand experience/been on a honeymoon to these places that they can recommend?
I reckon budget will be £2-3k for 10-14 days.

Can you get a fortnight in the Maldives for 3k?
Bear in mind that you'll want to go AI I suspect, otherwise budget another 200+ a day in food and drink - ie another 3k on top.
edit to add: we did Kenya and Mauritius for ours this year, came in just under 6k for 5 star all the way (AI).

You won't get two weeks in the Maldives for that!
I can't wait to go there at somepoint though.
We've just booked a cheapy honeymoon for next year as I didn't fancy spending £6-7k on going on the dream Maldives trip.
Booked 8 nights in Marrakech at a top end Riad with 2 nights in the Atlas mountains in another decent hotel. Came to about £2.5k so not too bad at all really.

Depends really on what you want from your honeymoon. Do you just want a beach paradise or beach & adventure?
Im doing Beach & adventure basically as we can do the beach at any time in the future but it would be hard pressed to do adventure too especially if you have nippers in toe.
Time of year is also important you either want a hot summer time location or cold winter location (snow/skiing etc).
I take it your total budget is £2k all in & you want 2 weeks. The maldives peak season will be very very hard to do on this budget - I'd say that budget is just enough for 1 and thats skimping when your there... you'd be better off going to other locations which are cheaper and you'll still have a fantastic time.
I'm off on a 3 weeker in 2 weeks and its costing best part of £10k - hotels, car hire, flights, safari. Note not all are inclusive of food so Im going to have to pay for a lot of food, fuel, little trips while out there drink... I can easily see it coming in at near on £15k... I had planned no more than £5k at the start - but this will be the holiday of a lifetime.

Is that £2k - £3k per person or for the two of you?
For the two of us.Maldives - will we get bored? Is there stuff to do?
What to do? Lazy morning, go swimming/snorkling, lazy lunch, bit of sunbathing/reading, swimming/snorkling, watch sunset at 6 in the bar/on the beach. Wash up, dinner, bar...
Ahhh, wonderful holidays...
What are your interests?
If you like vegging on the beach and say scuba diving/snorkelling then the Maldives would be nice, but you're very much stuck "on island".
Where in Mexico were you thinking? It's a big place! Cozumel is a bit touristy and I would avoid Cancun like the plague. But there is interesting stuff to do on land on the Caribbean side - Mayan ruins, rainforest etc
The "Caribbean" - as opposed to Central America - is expensive compared with other parts of the world, not least because most of it is priced in dollars and you don't get as much for your pound as you did 4 months ago. for £1000-£1500 a head you're not going to get a particularly "special" holiday.

This was one place recommended in Cozumel:http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/CZMGB/main.wnt
Interests are sunning ourselves and relaxing with a good book, but we tend to get a bit fed up with it after 4-5 consecutive days.
Mexico is more attractive from this point of view as there is a lot to do/see once the beach loses its appeal.
Otherwise, might have to take up an interest in watersports!
