Discussion
Hi all
Just wondering if anyone on here has been to Canada partically the west coast as i am heading out there for 3 weeks soon and was wondering if anybody had recommendations of what to go see or do? I have filled most of my time up but have a few days spare in case there is something i shouldn't miss while i am there.
I am starting in Calgary and flying out of Vancouver.

Went over a few times last year, Calgary is not that interesting IMO but there are a lot of interesting places in between that and Vancouver.
All depends how you're planning of getting from one to the other, I'd recommend Banf and the area around it.
I hear Greyhound bus tickets are fairly cheap at the moment too

There's the indoor planetarium in the big mall in Calgary. Also Banff is worth a visit but i doubt there will be much snow there at the moment so you won't be able to fully appreciate it. Or you could try one of the French Maid "bars" if that floats your boat.
Also you could try some bow hunting. It doesn't appeal to everyone but it's quite enjoyable just to get out in the woods and prepare all your gear and have a few beers while you wait for your victim.

The indoor planetarium sounds good. I will just mention i'm female so hunting dosen't appeal to me.Also you could try some bow hunting. It doesn't appeal to everyone but it's quite enjoyable just to get out in the woods and prepare all your gear and have a few beers while you wait for your victim.
In Calgary you've got the zoo, Calgary Tower, various bits of parkland, Chinook Mall, the bits of old downtown, the river...
In the Calgary area there's Banff (if you're not scared of heights the Banff Gondola is worth the ride) and the Rockies in general, Drumheller/the badlands, Horseshoe Canyon...
Vancouver has the aquarium, Capilano suspension bridge & rainforest, tons of coastal views, and more Starbucks than you can shake one of their little wooden stirring sticks at...

Just got back from our 1st trip there.
We flew into calgary & drove up to Jasper for a few days & then to Banff for a few more before returning to calgary for flight home.
Scenery was spectacular, still tring to sort out the 900 photo's we took.
I also saw more wildlife in two weeks than i've ever seen in the UK.
Gas prices is around $1.30 a litre
Food is excelent especially if you like your steak or ribs.
Beer good, Rickards red & white, moosehead, but Keiths Traditional (pronounced Keets trad, or just trad) was my particular favourite.
Shopping not cheap, unlike the USA
here's some pictures I took, but the scenery is like this nearly everywhere.

Spent three months in Vancouver; lovely place. Check out Stanley Park and also take the cable car up to the top of Grouse Mountain, wonderful views depending on the weather! Capilano suspension bridge is also worth a visit. Take the ferry from Nainaimo to Vancouver Island and spend a day in Victoria; lots of lovely restaurants around the harbour. I'm off to Ottawa in a couple of weeks but would rather be going to the West Coast. Enjoy!

Are you into your wildlife? The Orca's hang around or migrate passed Vancouver Island. You can get a Kayak out and get "up close and personal" with the beasts!
Sounds wonderful what time of year do they migrate past? I am going out end of Septemberhttp://www.orca-kayak-trips.com/wildlife-whale-wat...

Thanks for this as I am going to Jasper and Banff. Driving through the national park for a few days aswell. Scenary does look absolutely amazing.

I hired a big f-off car and drove down in about a week and a half stopping various places along the way. Stunning. Am aching to do it again.Just wondering if anyone on here has been to Canada partically the west coast as i am heading out there for 3 weeks soon and was wondering if anybody had recommendations of what to go see or do? When you get to Banff I recommend having a pint in the Rose & Crown, go upstairs to the sun terrace, you get views like this one whilst having a pint....Beats my local pub garden.
I'll second that, spent 3 months there and its a fantastic place. Looked a more white when I was there though. Greendubber said:
