I've got a couple of weeks work in Singapore coming up at the start of
June, flying out on 1st and back on 15th, and will have evenings and 2
weekends free.

Not been before, so what are the "must not miss" highlights that PHers
would recommend??

I'm going to compare you with Google so please be on top form

Cheers,

Steve

Sounds cheesy, but do the "moonlight" tour at the zoo.

They run a hop on/hop off bus around the trails, and most of the animals are up and about. It's quite a turnup for the books when you walk down a path, round a corner, and there's a HUUUGeE lion right there in front of you (except it's not, it's behind security glass). You don't half sh1t yourself though.

Raffles, for the obligatory Sling.

Orchard Road (Just to look, not to shop, loads of cheaper places).

Cocktails on the 70-somethingth floor of the Westin Stamford as the sun goes down.

Avoid Sentosa, unless you actually like Blackpool, and are going to Singapore to recover from a tastectomey.

Book a table at the equinox restaunt, best view of Sinapore and great food.

Walk around MacRichie reservior taking in the suspension bridge and viewing tower, also do a walk around the small rain forest they have.

Shopping in Orchard road and visting Raffles is ofcourse a must.

Buy a copy of Lonley Plants Singapore and go on all the routed walks around China town, little India etc.

Also if you goto to o'niel treet you will find an authentic Chinese tea shop where the Queen and Prince Phillip visted and drank tea in 1980...something!

Puala Ubin is also a good place to hire a bike and enjoy a somewhat less built up Singapore!

Night zoo is a surprising must too

Do not goto Santosa Island, total waste of time!

Your not over their to help a rather large Scottish bank relocate by any chance??

I was in Singapore for 6 weeks, enjoyed every moment of it, apart from the work ofcourse!!!

Enjoy thumbup

Always stayed at the Shangri La Sentosa and thoroughly recommend it!

Raffles etc.. a must. Avoid Changi. They hang people there.

I've spent about 3 weeks there over the last year and it really opened up for me on the last trip as I walked everywhere because the temperature was a lot milder. I would make the effort to get out of the cabs, it's worth it although it's a bit more fifficult in June.

As for sights, well, how do you like low rise buildings and cheap women?

Do the night Safari ; not the same as driving a care through the Safari in the the UK. Animals aren't caged as such just what look like natural barriers built between people and the animals; and you walk around it eek (although there is an open bus tour as well).

Check the safety tips section on the map eek .

Make sure you eat at the hawker stalls ; food is good and tasty and cheap($3 for lunch - 1 pound); great for a lunch time snack.

Boat Quay/Clarke Quay; good for a relaxing night time meal and drink. Orchard Rd if you want something exotic !

Singapore Sling at Raffles of course; which I've never done; tiffin is Ok at Raffles; but trades on it's name.

Had a great time at Carnegie's(bar in the financial district) on my first few visits; not been recently, but Wed @ Carnegie's was great fun; but Thu in the office was hard work.

I worked out there for 3 months, and when I was offered a permenant position out there I though better of it and came back to the UK; the place does nothing for me, and what little there is to do there you can do in a matter of days.

As for eating at the places right by the water at Boat Quay, god awful food, you will get far tasty fare at any Hawker Centre, and cheaper too!

As the OP mentioned he has evenings free, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Evil, sorry, Orchard Towers hehe

Not a touristy recommendation but SG is a great place to purchase a watch if you fancy a new one. I got a £4k watch for £1.4k over there a couple of years ago.

As well as all the suggestions above:
Get some suits made up whilst you're there, Orchard Road is good for tailors.

Hop over to Bintan for a weekend on the beach or playing Golf.

There's a really nice hotel on Sentosa for afternoon tea, and a good aquarium..

You can go across the causway to JB for some much cheapness bargain clothes/dvds, (customs are quite hot on the way back though).

Sunday brunch at any large hotel, all you can eat and free flow champers for about £30.

Try not to stay in the ex-pat areas, travel around and try to visit all the districts, Chinatown, Little India etc....and eat from the Hawker stalls and food courts, they're rated for cleanliness by the little stickers in the windows.

Was my reference to low rise buildings and cheap women not obvious enough?

Thanks for the replies so far people.

Looks like the Night Tour of the Zoo is odds on then, plus lots
of eating and drinking.....

Not helping a certain Scottish bank relocate but doing work for
another multi-national bank.

I have a list of things to do - and probably not enough time to
do them all in.....still, better to have too much to do than too
little...

Where are the best nightspots in singapore? Going to head out tomorrow night after a sling or two at raffles. I've heard of the infamous orchard towers, but is it any good? Where else is there? Preferably I'd like to go somewhere popular with the locals and not stuffed with expats.

I'm 24 so somewhere with a young crowd would also be preferable!

I spent a few nights a club called Zouk a few years ago, memory is sketchy but I'm sure I was one of the only tourists in there! biggrin
Thanks, looks good. Read a couple of reviews and ministry of sound and powerhouse were also recommended. Not here long enough to try them all unfortunately!
