With the wedding only 10 days away, I'm starting to get rather excited about the honeymoonbounce

We're heading to the Maldives (Reethi Beach) on an all-inclisive package. However, I'm just wondering how much extra spending money I should take. We've got snorkelling gear, and aren't that keen on scuba (I know, I know...). However, we hear that there are boat and fishing trips etc, which we rather fancy.

Trouble is, I have no idea how much things cost out there, and how much we should budget for.

All advice gratefully received!

Went when I was younger with my parents and i used to spend my time floating around the island on the current with my snorkelling gear on, then when I got to the end of the beach I walked the 500m back up the beach and started again thumbup Also if you can stomach it try sea-fishing, we loved it.

Absolutely Awesome place - stayed at Kuredu Island Resort on Lhaviyani Atoll 3 years ago on all inclusive package too. Still end up paying around £300 for all the activites which include visiting different island (see true maldivian's culture which will shock you) and water sport, sunset cruise etc)

Money well spent !!

Echo above we had our honey moon in Kuredu & it was fantastic see www.kuredu.com/kuredu_island_maldi
As for prices the day trips are very reasonable & the all inclusive covers most things (except cocktails) As with all these places ensure you tip your barman well on the first few nights & you will end up with plenty of free cocktails for the rest of your stay.

The extras I remember paying for were things like night fishing, did a day deep sea fishing (which was bloody expensive!), pampering treatments on the beach. The all inclusive we were on had the booze at meal times only, so if you fancied a cheeky half during the afternoon it was London prices. There were also a couple of restaurants, not in the all-inclusive, that were of a much higher standard. We spent an absolute fortune, but to be fair didn't need to spend any more than we already had getting there. We went to the Banyan Tree.

Just don't do what I did and contract Chicken Pox while you're at the airport. That puts a crimp in your step, I can tell you And don't drink the water on Male - there's a typhoid epidemic brewing, and dengue fever and cholera are common.

Me and my female stayed at The Summer Island Village.
We had an all inclusive package, which paid for our own chalet with bathroom, our own "servant" (sorry to call him that, but that is how he was introduced). He was fantastic and did everything for us, from cleaning the room to finding us the most exclusive places on the island. He would also set up deck chairs, loungers and food and drink for us. We also had our own waiter for the holiday, who again was faultless.
We were advised to tip each of them about £5-10 each at the end of the holiday. However, we were so impressed, that I think we gave them about £30 each. Remember that this would probably represent a couple of weeks wages to them.
The Maldives is as near to Paradise as most people will ever experience. Turquoize waters, fabulous weather, lovely people, great food and total relaxation.
Apart from the price of the holiday, the only other money that we paid was for gifts.
If you are into Scuba diving and exotic wildlife, you will absolutely love it.
Beware though, the boat crossing from Male Airport to your island can get a bit choppy, so take seasick pills if you get a bit queezy. If you are a poser, you can hire a plane for about £75 each way.
I have just looked at our holiday photos, and really want to go back there now!

I have been 6 times - drinks and food are expensive if not all-inclusive but you don't use cash on any of the resort islands, you sign for everything. If paying by card it used to take 24 hours to clear but I expect that has changed now. Everything is in US$ by the way and you should take enough cash to tip the staff at the end of your stay - befriend your roomboy and he will treat you like a God if he can smell a good tip, their salary is crap so they do rely on this. Our single biggest expense(never been all inclusive)used to be bottled water as you just sweat buckets - make sure you have enough sunny lotion as it costs a fortune there.

Enjoy, if it wasn't for my dodgy back I would go there tomorrow as I just love it.

ETA Don't over-pack, you will only need shorts, t-shirts, floaty stuff for the Laydee and cossies. You will not need shoes as no one bothers but best to check you brochure for any dress codes at dinner etc. Take loads of books but most islands have a library anyway.

We went to Kanuhura which was fabulous.

If Reethi Beach is anything like it, you won't need a penny in spending money. There is nothing on each island but the resort, so nowhere else to go and everything goes on your bill for the end of your stay.

If you don't dive, you are really missing out in the Maldives. Sorry, but it's true.

Went to Kuredu last year, all inclusive, which meant free beer (Kingfisher IIRC), free mainline spirits, free mixers and free house wine all week.

Mini bar was not free and expensive.
Unpowered water-sports were free. Everything else chargable.
Night fishing about $60 each. Sunset cruise about $30 each I think. Deep sea fishing and Scuba went from about $100 to $600, but all on credit card and remember the dollar is WEAK at the mo (~1.85/pound)

$1-2 per day tip for rooms boys(maid) which was well worth it. $20 dollar tip for restuarant waiter at the end who remembered our fav drinks and would have them on the table before we could sit down by the third day!

Took off my flip-flops getting out of the seaplane and didn't put them on for 14 days.

Going to Hakurra Club (Meemu Atoll) in 4 days and I'm already winding down....

We had our honeymoon on Thudufushi in the Maldives.....it is (or was at the time) owned by the Agnelli family....and was utterly brilliant. It was the most relaxing, perfect week I have ever spent anywhere in my entire life.

The seaplane transfer was slightly scarey as the pilots flew bare footed and didn't look like they should have been in charge of a wheelbarrow.hehe

We want to go back next year for our 5th anniversary, but it's soooooooo expensive i doubt we will.

You will enjoy it. Do as many of the outings and fishing trips etc as possible as they are a great laugh
