I have just checked interrail and I can get a one month pass, first class, for £400.

As this includes Eurostar it seems an absolute bargain for a month of European travel.

Am I missing something? Is it hard to get reservations etc..

It is a bargain definitely

It's been a while since I used it (just pre covid) and with reservations you either have to be extremely organised and book an itenary in advance or be prepared to either make it up as you go along or take trains that don't need a reservation.

i briefly looked into it a few years ago.

Certain trains, certain times, certain routes, certain amount of spaces.

It ended up being far too complicated to plan a multi European route - we drove instead.

However if you are not on a schedule then i suspect they are good value

It s definitely not the same Interail as the one in my 20s.

Then it was a paper booklet which you wrote down the train you wanted and you just hopped on.
No time limit,no trip limit, literally unlimited train travel any where in Europe for 12 months.

You can still get that.

There are other options available now as well - there does seem to be a lot less night trains these days although I'm not sure I'd do very well sleeping on the floor or in a seat!
I probably wouldn't be able to walk after a night like that these days.
