Years back I got in the habit of buying my own insurance for hirecars before going on holiday, and knew which products were decent. As I've not done that sort of holiday since 2019 now, I'm a bit out of the loop.

Any recommendations for such insurance products these days? Any providers best left alone?

We're talking about a single 2 week family holiday in the EU with a generic hatchback/SUV (not a year of exploring the mountain routes of Asia in a supercar biggrin )

annual questor excess insurance done for the last 6 years.
I don't go on holiday without it.
Holiday 2 / 3 times a year for about 8 weeks in total.
Europe cover is about £50 annually

I've had a policy with Eversure for a few years, worldwide cover for £55.

Never claimed so no idea if they are any good when it matters.

I book through Zest, who give loads of extras along with insurance. Last year they saved me €85 just for the free additional driver.

I've clamied with Eversure.

The settled and put the money into my account in about 36 hours. No quibbles, just paid me out quickly when the car hire company stung me.
