Have a hire car booked with Sixt whilst in Australia. What separate hire car insurance companies do people use ?.

I have used icarhireinsurance for many years now. I have an annual worldwide policy that I will be using for Australia next year.

Never had to claim though so don’t know what they are like in that respect.

Looking at Rental Cover for a days rental in Alaska next year as they only provide very basic insurance and I need more SLI.

Second this, I've claimed twice, you pay the hire firm on your own credit card and the money was in my account before credit card payment was due.

Questor and have never had to claim

I deliberately say this as I have hired cars from airport rentals with less than stellar reps who have made utterly zero effort to fleece me on return knowing I have this indemnity

Before discovering this sort of cover renting a car on holiday was something of an adventure........

Cheers

Went with Questor. Seems to be highly recommended on here and elsewhere.

Having had a look, then I think I will also be using them in July for a hire car in Alaska where the cover provided looks to be virtually nil!

..who are you booking through for no cover in Alaska? Assuming you're in the UK, you're doing it wrong. Book through Expedia, Rentalcars, or even direct and you should have a decent level of liability and full CDW with no excess. Assuming you're going with a recognised brand..

Indeed, these extra policies are designed to reduce the excess, not replace the hire companies own insurance entirely.

The issue is that there is no way to book from the UK for the location we are having the car from. It is for one day when we get off a cruise. Very few hire car options in the town.

As I understand it from their web site, they provide the minimum cover for Alaska and there is an excess of $35000 for damage!

I’ve looked at Questor and they can provide cover up to £75000 when there is no CDW.

I have also found a company that will increase the SLI cover

ah, understood.. if you know the name of the company you're booking with, let me know and I might be able to find a UK site for you to book through. Also, for just one day, you might find it easier just to pay up for the supplier's own coverage.

Cheers - the company is called Skagway Affordable Car Hire - get the impression that there aren’t many options up there given its location!

My travel agent couldn’t find anything he could book through and he came up with that one.

Avis are in Skagway - and are bookable from the .co.uk site for 316 GBP for one day in mid July. The one you found is 300 USD for one day as is https://www.klondikecars.com/ for an electric car and 399USD from https://www.sasquatchtourrentals.com/

The Affordable one excludes tax so I guess the other one does as well.
