Mrs J4CKO and myself have decided we fancy trying Benidorm, we loved the documentary series that was shown a few years back about the Solana hotel.

We have a week at the end of October and need somewhere four four or five nights, any suggestions as to where to go ? Not wanting anything too lairy so aiming for the old town apparently.

We want to go an experience it, bit of sun and a full English or two.

I'm going in November for 4 nights to do the Benidorm Half Marathon. We're actually staying in the Solana hotel as well ha ha!

Go on Booking.com and pull up their map showing what apartments are available for what price and then go to the easyJet site to find cheap flights to Alicante.

The bus to Benidorm is every hour and about 8 Euros single

Cheers, am looking forward to this more than the quite expensive all inclusive in July we had.

Think maybe a bit quieter and toned down for us sensitive souls, might be a one off, might be the start of a yearly thing !

Was that the one with Johnny Vegas?

I've no idea which part it was, but my sister and her extended family of in-laws went there a few years ago. She isn't keen to go back.

Very good for a fried breakfast, though, apparently!

My parents go every year and love it there.

They stay at the Deloix.

The live music and and acts in Benidorm in the evening as well as the food and drink options are great.

I’ve been once with the mrs and we enjoyed it as well.

The pintxos bars in the old town are superb. There’s an alley where you can grab them with every drink - would recommend .

Strange inspiration. That ‘comedy’ painted a very poor picture of Spain and the sort of people going there!

We have stayed at Servigroup hotels - nothing flash but good value and always clean.

The Venus isn’t bad for the money.

The Don Pancho is also a good hotel and a bit more upmarket.

It looked like great fun to be honest, prepared to give it a go, easy to go all snobby about it, but people who go there have fun by the looks of it.

Us middle class folk avoiding thing a that may be fun because not posh, meh, sod that.

In case you're not aware, Neptunes is actually called Morgan's Tavern and it's not part of the Solana. When we went it happened to be cultural misappropriation day (known by some as Saint Patrick's Day) and everywhere was heaving. You couldn't move in Morgan's Tavern, so it spoiled the experience somewhat.

The Tapas bars are ok - not up to the standard of places like Seville or Granada, but a long way from the Full English experience. The beach is lovely and the mobility scooters really are a big deal.

Definitely go.

Benidorm has many facets. I avoided it for years on reputation but on going, found a very clean resort with great beach and street cleaning, lots of shops and a fabulous promenade.

Just round the corner is a hidden beach from where Benidorm is entirely hidden and you could be in the middle of nowhere. The strip has all the pubs and clubs, karaoke etc.

Old Town has a more Continental bazaar feel with lots of cafes and narrow streets. The far side has a long beach but less commercialism but if you stay in Old Town, it's a long walk to the strip in baking, windless heat.

We go more for the karaoke between 2 and 8 then get a meal and back to the apartment to avoid the zombies who go to get smashed.

Plenty of entertainment though not seen the Queen tribute as they don't come on until midnight.

Sticky Vicky does the rounds but it's rather dull. Tony Scott is probably the worst comedian you'll ever see, a throwback to the 70s and don't criticise or they throw you out ( merciful release). Loads of different tribute bands, some bang average but it's free.

We go to the Benidorm Palladium where beer is 2 Euros a pint until 8 when the acts start.

From being a "snob", I am now a regular because it's about having a laugh. Some of the cheap breakfasts are not good - processed sausages and greasy bacon. I recommend the Curry Leaf curry restaurant but there are plenty of restaurants to choose from.

We are looking at going in early or mid-November.

We have never been before. I don't do heat, do 15-17°C is perfect for me.

A friend stayed at the Hotel Presidente. Food was really good, breakfast included proper English bacon and sausages.

We need a pool as I need to get a swim in a couple of times a week and I imagine the outdoor ones will not be heated. The Presidente has an indoor pool as well.

A week half board seems to be about £500.

We are going to try this one next year as heard good things.

All 3 are between old town and new town. Away from the "strip" but easy walk to both areas. The old town has some good restaurants.

We stayed here, really nice and next to the old town. We had one of the rooms above the rooftop infinity pool. The food was really good, buffet style.

Going to go through the hotel suggestions, they look really quite nice.

We went to Rhodes to a TUI All inclusive in July, was nice, quite expensive but I was bored stless as she was just sunbathing, I went to Faliraki to relive my youth bt that was it, partly because it was 46c I didnt do my normal exploring. So this appeals more as can see some life, did love the TV show so will take in "Neptunes" and some other locations.

Funny you say this. I watched the series for the first time in the pandemic and really enjoyed it. I was there in 2001 as my first holiday without parents. The series gave me the same ideas as you

Like you, it made me fancy going for a good time and a bit of sun. I feel like I've done too much long haul, always ticking off new countries and want a bit of basics in the future.

Nothing wrong with having a good time, I looked down on it in the past but I'll do it again t some point. It was funny seeing some of the places I remember on TV.

A friend of mine taught me about how much fun it is to look back on your own culture when you're away in a foreign land. It's amusing and enlightening and this for me would be part of the fun of doing what Brits do so to speak.

I'd be interested in any more feedback on hotels too.

Careful though, the weather is changeable. We had 32 in September, just sub 30 in October but it lashed down in November. Spain has more rain than you think.

Hence the requirement for an indoor pool, gym and perhaps spa facilities.
