We are off to Rhodes in a couple of weeks, and may want to hire a car to get round for a day or two.

Any recommendations on who to use or not use, and advice on driving there?
Is a car essential or is public transport ok?

I’ve used Hertz from the airport (Jeep Renegade), no complaints

Some of the better restaurants and minor sites outside the towns would be difficult to reach by public transport, but the tourist locations and major sites should be OK by taxi

Following with interest for later in the year, let us know how you get on please smile

I've used Zest in the past on other holidays but haven't been to Rhodes before so wasn't sure if better options were available.

If you find any great restaurants or must-see places let me know please smile

Thanks. They look to have a decent selection of cars and do hotel drop offs. We would only want one for a couple of days max as well be fine doing tourist stuff closer in or organised tours.

Have been a few times now. Use Rodos Cars.

I highly recommend you go to the acropolis ruins in ixia when you go to old town, it’s only about 10 minutes out and is incredible.

One place we loved for a lunch in the hills, and everyone we've recommended it to did as well, is Pelecanos Taverna in Vati map

Just to chuck in another option, we used Efrem rent a car last year. Great service and price, hotel drop off and collection also.. The price they advertise is the price you pay, there is no insurance waver bolt ons etc

Many thanks, we're staying in Lindos so that's a really useful one to have.

We went with Rodos Cars and had a Fiat 500C dropped off at the hotel as requested. They actually delivered it the night before so they could just do the paperwork in the morning which makes a lot of sense.

It’s a few years old with some minor bits of damage and has done 46k KM but it’s fine for what we need and was cheaper than the same car from Express hire just down the road.

Although the insurance includes all the damage waivers they charge a €40 admin fee for anything new so I’ve taken a full set of photos beforehand just to be on the safe side.

As for the car, the giant sunroof is a better option than a full soft top as you are a bit sheltered from the worst of the sun. It doesn’t have much power for any steep hills though that’s fine as I’m happy to pootle round, this being my first LHD driving experience.

Sounds ideal, I'd be happy enough bumbling around in a 500C for a few days, especially a twin air.

I'm hoping I can find somewhere that will drop off and collect in Lindos, I can't wait to explore.

This is a 1 litre mild hybrid with 69bhp, so having a six speed gearbox is pretty pointless but they’ve got plenty of other cars to choose from and they do deliver to Lindos.

Yesterday we went to Kamiros and two thirds of the cars on the road were small white hatchback with hire car logos on the doors. Speed limits are a bit random. It’s clear where they start, but they often seem to end without another sign to tell you.

And just to wrap this up, I’d left the car parked up outside the hotel and keys with reception, and it was collected overnight with no disputes about damage or anything.

I know the safe option is to do a handover in person but I wanted a beer and took plenty of photos beforehand.

Would happily use them again in future.
