Hi.

Our previous ideas for Barcelona in August have been scuppered by a grumpy faced teen rofl

Wife & I will do that one at some point on our own to enjoy the art, but perhaps not this year!

So where should we be looking do you reckon? Don't want just beach (I hate just sitting there frizzling) although we've promised daughter one day on the beach so not too far away. Of more interest is being somewhere with stuff to wander round. By stuff we mean shops, shops & more shops (teenage girl - spent Tenerife going into mostly the same shops she could here in UK! headachewobble) as well as cafes and the odd tourist attraction (art, museum etc).

We're looking at the Med, been to Canaries a few times so time for a change. But I've not been to many med resorts since Torremolinos as a 20 year old!

Ideas floated (thanks to TikTok) include Valencia, Malaga, Majorca, Balearics but I've no idea which areas to seek out or avoid.

Ideas please!

Why not Barcelona? Sounds like just what she's after. Málaga is surprisingly nice, but will be very hot in August.

I'm a Dad to a teen. I spend my time shrugging and not understanding! rofl

She wants something more 'holiday' and less 'city' although of course wants to do the shopping etc. I never said it'd make sense!

If you really want to do Barcelona you could try using these as a lever. Look depressing and over-priced to me, but may be just the ticket for uploading loads of photos to Instagram for your daughter.

Other suggestions - Lisbon, San Sebastian, Porto.

Amalfi coast maybe. Add in Naples. Shopping in Naples, few nice shops in Sorrento. Pompeii to visit between the two. Nice food, relaxed atmosphere, easy enough to get around.

As a dad of two teenage daughters, I feel your pain. We have the same discussions when booking holidays, and when I point out that we live near the beach, close to the city, in a warm country already, I just get the blank stare and, “But that’s different!”

There is no reasoning.

Of your suggestions I’d go with Majorca - a few days in Palma to do the shopping bit, then rent a car and naff off to a beach in the north, via Deia.
