I’m going to collect my partner and her daughter from Birmingham airport on Friday.

The way things are these days I expected to be in for a fiver, but I just checked on their website and they are saying to use car park 1, 2 or 3 at a minimum charge of £9.50 for an hour. Apparently this is a low-cost and convenient solution for me.

Is anyone aware of an alternative to this banditry?

There's a 10 minute pick up/drop off area, so you could park up round the corner and wait for them to clear security.

I read about the drop-off area on the website but there’s no mention of a pick-up equivalent.

They can jump on the air-rail shuttle to the station/NEC then you can pick them up from there 20mins free pick-up
They run every 2 or 3 mins from the terminal.

Problem is there are very few places ‘just round the corner’ to stop though.

I regularly pick up family from there.

It isn't worth using the premium drop off / collection area as you only get 15 minutes and it still costs you about £6.

Given that you can't predict the exact arrival time or how long it will take to retrieve their luggage, the stress free option is to put up with the charge for 1 hour in car park 1 and walk into the terminal to meet them. Pick up some treats in the M&S food to stuff your face while you are waiting!

I think this is the best option. Thanks to all those that commented.

This is what I do every time I use bhx, it's the perfect way tbh, large free car park with no anpr, cheap taxis from and a train into Birmingham and beyond. The shuttle takes 4 minutes from the 1st floor.

Don't bother with the airport arrivals and get them to catch the free monorail over to the train staton, straight down the escalator and you can wait to pick them up here for free.

That’s the 3rd suggestion for the easiest way to do it!

Amazing how 3 posters say the thing in completely different ways.
