Geneva Recommendations
Discussion
We’re spending 5 nights in Geneva over the Easter period. I know the city is thought of as being a bit dull by many people but we’re mainly using Geneva as a base for day trips to visit places like Annecy, Chamonix & Montreux.
Do any of you have any recommendations for good restaurants & bars in Geneva itself or even any of the other places mentioned? Also, any other must see’s/do’s?
Thanks in advance!

Our standard little tourist trip when we lived in Lausanne was:
Maison Callier - chocolate factory museum tour. Interesting little tour and you end up in a tasting room where they have everything they make and you can eat as much as you want.
La Maison du Gruyere - cheese factory tour. Not as good as the chocolate one but worth it for the cheese turning robots. We love the cheese.
Walk round Gruyere - a beautiful little walled village
HR Giger museum - some amazing stuff in there, artwork, props, furniture etc.
There is a Giger bar/cafe opposite the museum, or just next to it is Chalet de Gruyeres if you want traditional fondue etc
Annecy is beautiful. Montreux is worth a visit If you are interested in sport the Olympic museum in Lausanne is very good.
The whole Lavaux wine making region is achingly gorgeous. Lavaux Vinorama is on the way to Montreux and worth a stop. We once took the funicular to Mont Pelerin and walked back down through the Vineyards into Vevey - great if it is decent weather.
Don't really have any Geneva recommendations as we didn't visit much. We did find a walking tour which was very interesting, there are some lovely buildings there.

The only advice I can give you is:
If you park in the large underground carpark in the centre of town, make a very careful note of where you emerge onto the street as pedestrians. Note the street name and the shops that are either side of the pedestrian entrance to the car park. It took us at least 1/2 hour to find the car park and that was just any pedestrian entrance to the car park, never mind the closest one to where we left the car.

Le Floris in Hermance is really nice try to go at sunset the restaurant is basically a big glass balcony. Although now as I write this might be shut for winter. But well worth checking out if you can.
Place to visit is Yvoire on the French side its lovely and I recommend eating at "Hotel Restaurant Du Port" (our favourite) or "Les Jardins du LeMan". Both are really great.
Other places to visit on Swiss side, Nyon, Saint Prex as well as Lausanne and Montreaux. A good day out is just drive down the Swiss side don't take the motorway cling to the side of the lake loads of little towns with great restaurants.
I went to school out there and parents still have a house on the French side, I visit minimum twice a year with out fail. Its my favourite place on the planet in many ways more home to me than here.

Sorry, late to pick up the thread. I go several times a year to the French Jura.
I think ntiz with his great knowledge pretty much nails the brief but would second the comments about Lavaux.
From Nyon you may like to take the narrow gauge railway to La Cure in the mountains, it passes through tiny villages. When I took it, the driver invited me into his cab & I took a great video of the descent into Nyon with Lac Léman & Mont Blanc in the background - sensational!
My first trip to the area was as a teenager on a French exchange when I fell in love with the area - we did the circumference of the lake in an S Class Merc

Les Armures in Old Town is great! The atmosphere, the history, and the food—such a solid spot to visit if you're in the area. As for accommodations, I honestly don’t remember the name anymore, but I’ll check my booking account and see if I can dig something up from that trip. Might be helpful if you're planning something similar. Definitely checking Google ratings or even browsing a few travel forums is not a bad idea either—sometimes the hidden gems have the best reviews from real people
