On Sunday we were due to fly from Fuerteventura to Gatwick, the return of our BA holiday. Unfortunately the outgoing flight had a technical issue and returned to Gatwick.

We were provided withnice overnight accommodation, meals and transport after a while, and on returning to the airport given a form about our rights to claiming compensation as we were 26 hours overdue by the time a replacement jet had arrived.

My travel insurance pays for a travel delay, and they have asked for "Evidence of the delay to your pre-booked transport - A letter or email from the airline/carrier stating both the length and the reason for the delay (normally showing the expected and actual departure times). If this was not given to you at the time, you will need to obtain this document from the airline/carrier's customer service department."

However I cannot find a way to request this from BA. We were only provided with a photocopy of the EU rules on compensation at Fuerteventura. Completely stumped at this point, I have claimed the compensation from BA already but there is no way to add this request for a letter.

Any help or tips appreciated.

Edited to add I have just found an email form, fingers crossed!

What are you claiming for if BA paid for a hotel, meals and transport already and arranged a new flight?

My insurance cover includes a payment for delays, I did ask them when completing my claim if this was covered, and they requested this additional information. My son in law seems to be covered in the same way by a separate policy.
