Brisbane - interesting 2 day car hire and route
Discussion
I find myself being sent to Brisbane (from chilly Scotland) for meetings on a Thursday, Friday and Monday in March. I have the weekend free. I’ve been to Brisbane before for work so not too fussed about seeing the city. I’d quite like to hire a fun car, drive to somewhere on the Saturday and drive back to my hotel on the Sunday.
Any recommendations on where to hire a fun car, what it might be, where to go (hotel/location) and back again?
My budget is not mental.

Head up to the Sunshine Coast - about an hour and a half north.
Plenty of places to stay.
Have a day in Noosa mooching about the beach, or for a more relaxed vibe spend some time at the riverside between Noosa and Tewantin.
Other bits of the Sunshine Coast are nice too.
Or, head south to the Gold Coast - loads of accommodation options and plenty to do. There is a car museum in the hinterland too.
Depending on your timing it could be school holidays so might be busy / expensive.
Don’t go to NSW - QLD is great and NSW is ste

I've been gone for 16 years so can't help much with hire cars sorry. For something interesting I'd take a look at the Turo app - one of my mates hired a few crazy cars in the states on that and had some really good experiences.
As for fantastic driving roads, you'd have to do the classic Saturday morning through the rain forest up to Mount Glorious cafe. Earlier you can go the better to avoid the lycra boys! Stop for a coffee and a fry up and watch all the motorbikes and fast cars pull up.
From there you can optionally go down the back side and turn around once you get to Lake Wivenhoe - it's a fun section (and normally quieter) but not on the way. Head back on yourself for an even twistier section down to Samson valley, turn left up a boring bit past Lake Samsonvale. This gets interesting again as you climb and come back down Mt. Mee. Head up for the obligatory lookout of the Glass House Mountains and you're done!

I'd agree with the previous poster and stay on the Sunshine Coast - anywhere between Mooloolaba and Noosa is everything you want from an Aussie beach. My favourite was always Sunshine Beach but really pick anywhere in your budget that has a nearby surf life saving club for some crumbed whiting and a lazy afternoon sipping beer and watching the ocean!
