Thinking of a trip to Dubai / Abu Dhabi and surrounding area in mid-October kinda time.

Looking for a little inspiration on where to go. We'd look for up to 2 weeks and don't want to just stay in Dubai. We'd definitely like to go to Abu Dhabi and see things like the Grand Mosque and we'd be well up for some sand dune bashing in those ATV things. I've read about a decent route that does something like Sir Baniyas, Abu Dhabi, Dubai.

Hopefully someone here has been and done something similar and recommend some places to go see.

Have been to Dubai. Abu Dhabi and Ras al Khaimah in Oct.

Dubai has turned into a pastiche and I no longer have any interest.

RAK is very quiet and not too much to do there.

AD was a great mix - we spent time at the Hotel - Ritz Carlton chilling out and relaxing.

We did go out and saw the Grand Mosque - it was the first mosque I've been to and was spectacular - very calming and an amazing structure.
We also went to the F1 circuit and in the evening watched a movie outdoors that was playing.
You could cycle round the circuit as well to work up an appetite.

Other activities that we had hoped to do include
Ferrari World
Kayaking in Jubail Mangrove Park
Louvre

The kids are a bit older so the above is still on the list.

I think 2 weeks might be a bit too much....

Yeah I've said up to 2 weeks as a limit, but I think we're settling down to 10-11 nights tops.

Having done some more research we're also leaning on the split being toward AD than Dubai. We were just trying to figure out if we could squeeze a 3rd destination in but it might be a bit too much moving around for 10 nights. To be brutal, I reckon a gulf cruise would have probably sufficed but I think they're out of season by that point or the season doesn't start until November which is too late.

Been to AD twice both in October , couldn’t handle the heat any earlier it is seriously brutal.

Was staying with friends so they did the whole touring about for us ,Grand Mosque is incredible to see but I forgot to take sunglasses that day and it was nearly impossible to see when outside and the reflection off the white marble was crazy.

Get yourself a night trip out to the dunes and see the stars with no light pollution , worth having a day with the peregrine falcon handlers as well they treat these birds like gods.

Done Dubai twice also as a day trip but no desire to return, it’s just all shiny fake my camel is bigger than your camel mindset.

11 nights is still plenty of time to fit in the following:

This is something not many others will have done and will give you a much broader picture of the UAE, Oman and the region. You may not remember much about Dubai after you leave, but you'll certainly remember this for the rest of your life.

It's a fairly long drive from Dubai, so you might want to combine it with a stay here (1-2 nights), either the day before, or the day after the cruise.

This way, you'll have been to 3 Emirates and Oman, a hugely historical area of the world where not many souls have been.

ALTERNATIVELY

If you have more money than I had previously considered, you could drive down to Qasr Al Sarab deep down on the border of UAE and KSA, i think this is within the Empty Quarter, or certainly getting there at least.

En route to Qasr Al Sarab, you can stop off 1-2 hrs here:

the Rainbow Sheikh Car Museum, I went around 15 years ago, and it was a little smaller and more discreet back then, it's probably had money spent on it since to formalise it as a tourist attraction.

ALTERNATIVELY

If you are tempted by the first option, but don't fancy the cruise, but you do have a decent amount of money to spend, then how about here for 2 nights:

OR........!

How about Dubai, Abu Dhabi....and here for 2 nights..

Shabby chic chalets and run down villas. Something a bit different. We used to love doing day trips here, it was like going back the 80's.

This is some excellent food for thought. Thank you very much! The overnight cruise sounds right up our street.
